i2X - Connecting EU Health Data

Intelligent Implementations of the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format Project: Implementing and demonstrating the value of the EEHRxF in a scalable and sustainable way.

i2X

Intelligent Implementations of the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF)

i2X aims to support the digital transformation of healthcare systems by improving how health data is exchanged — both within national borders and in cross-border interactions with the EU — without adding burden to healthcare professionals. Through in-service testing at demonstration sites in 12 EU Member States, i2X will show how digital tools can enable better care, better outcomes, and a more connected health ecosystem.

Co-funded by the European Union, i2X contributes directly to the vision and goals of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and supports the rollout of MyHealth@EU services.

Unlocking high quality, coordinated care across borders

i2X is on a mission to enhance patient care by making health data more comprehensive, accessible, and structured, while empowering patients to share information seamlessly with clinicians and take a more active role in their healthcare. This approach promotes continuity in cross-border care.

Laying the groundwork for EU-scale interoperability

i2X is boosting efficiency and reducingcosts by streamlining data exchange across healthcare organizations. By aligning with EEHRxF standards, i2X aims to achieve interoperability across more than 50% of healthcare services at the regional, national, and EU levels.

Building a sustainable EU health data ecosystem

i2X actively engages key stakeholders (such as clinicians, IT vendors, patients, and policymakers) through co-creation, offering practical guidance to support the adoption of EEHRxF in real-world clinical settings. By showcasing sustainable implementation practices, i2X helps build a more standardized and connected EU health data ecosystem.
