Eduardo is a Public Health specialist, CEO, and co-founder of UpHill. He has a Master's degree in medicine from NOVA University of Lisbon and a postgraduate degree in clinical research from Harvard University. He is also a visiting assistant in Digital Health at ISCTE and NOVA Medical School. Early on, he learned how to code at the age of 14 and has been passionate about it since then.

Duarte has an integrated Master's degree in Medicine, whose thesis dissertation explored the area of medical informatics and management, giving rise to the first pilot version of UpHill Simulate software. In his academic background he also has a postgraduate degree in Information Management and Business Intelligence in Healthcare. His professional career focused on Digital Health, with the management of several projects examining Health IT, and on components of interoperability and business intelligence, with his multi-year collaboration with the Shared Services of the Ministry of Health, EPE. He is also an invited assistant at the University of Beira Interior and is currently a PhD student in Information Science and Technology.

Simon Lucas is the Chief Commercial Officer at UpHill Health. Simon previously served as the European General Manager for NuvoAir and before that, as Managing Director at Kry/Livi, where he was responsible for scaling their telehealth solution to become the market leader in the UK. He also held several roles in the scale up of Virgin Healthcare, including spearheading the Growth and Commercial function across the business.

Computer Science Engineer at NOVA School of Science and Technology. Motivated to make an impact that matters, Miguel joined Uphill after an international career as a developer in a Belgium unicorn startup and as a consultant in Portugal and Angola. Started as a backend engineer, where he gained experience in service-oriented architecture and data-intensive applications.

Biomedical Engineer, with a master’s in clinical engineering, with a dissertation on the formulation of a model to assess the compliance between clinical practice and a care pathway. Driven by impact, product value and business success, always eager to learn more about technology and innovation. Strives to improve processes to accomplish better results. António is the founder and CEO of MAZE. He is the Managing Partner of our impact VC fund. Antonio has worked in impact investment for +15 years in the UK, Canada and Europe. He teaches Impact Investment and Impact Venture Capital at NOVA SBE and previously was an Analyst at Social Finance UK. He holds a MSc in Business Administration from Católica Business School and is a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum. His motto is that 99 is not 100.

Benoit Wirz is a founding partner at Brighteye Ventures which he helped launch in 2017. He has invested in startups that leverage technology to help people learn in Europe and North America since 2011, including: ZenEducate, Ornikar, Uphill, OneDay, Nearpod and Newsela. Prior to Brighteye, Ben ran the Knight Enterprise Fund investing in early-stage media and edtech companies as part of the John S. And James L. Knight Foundation. Previously, as a principal with US Global, he invested in and developed businesses in energy, manufacturing and tech. Before working with startups, Ben was a journalist with Asahi Shimbun and an investment banker with Jefferies & Company. He has an MBA from INSEAD and a BA and MA from Stanford University.

Francisca Leite is currently the Director of Hospital da Luz Learning Health, part of the Luz Saúde group, an unit dedicated to the advanced training of professionals, translational research and innovation in the areas of healthcare delivery and management. She has a Degree in Physical and Technological Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico and a Ph.D. in Medical Engineering and Medical Physics from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology.

Joined Explorer Investments in 2020 as a member of the Private Equity - Growth Capital team. He is responsible for the analysis and execution of investments for the Explorer Growth Funds and is also involved in monitoring the portfolio companies in Fundo Revitalizar Norte. He began his career at Deloitte in 2009, working in the area of Global Investment and Innovation Incentives. In 2010, he joined BPI to work in Asset Management, as part of the management team of Fundo BPI África. He was also in charge of the management team of Fundo BPI Brasil which won several awards from the financial industry during his term in this position. He is a CFA 1 Charterholder, has an MBA from INSEAD (2015), a Masters Degree from ESADE (2009) and a Business Degree from Nova SBE (2008).

Walter is currently an Investment Director responsible at Caixa Capital, the venture capital investing arm of Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD), Portugal’s largest financial group. Walter has over 30 years of professional experience, both in Portugal and internationally, with over 20 years dedicated to venture capital and early stage companies.
