Our leadership

Eduardo Freire Rodrigues, MD

CEO & Co-founder

Eduardo is a Public Health specialist, CEO and co-founder of UpHill. He has a master's degree in medicine from NOVA University of Lisbon and a postgraduate degree in clinical research from Harvard University. He is also a visiting assistant in Digital Health at ISCTE and NOVA Medical School. Early on, he learned how to code at the age of 14 and became passionate about it since then.

Duarte Sequeira, MD

COO & Co-founder

Duarte has an integrated Master's Degree in Medicine, whose thesis dissertation covered the area of medical informatics and management, giving rise to the first pilot version of UpHill Simulate software. In his academic background he also has a postgraduate degree in Information Management and Business Intelligence in Healthcare. His professional career focused on Digital Health, with the management of several projects in the area of Health IT, and on components of interoperability and business intelligence, with his multi-year collaboration with the Shared Services of the Ministry of Health, EPE. He is also an invited assistant at University of Beira Interior and is currently a PhD student in Information Science and Technology.

João Jesus

Head of Finance

With a Master's degree in Finance, leads the company's financial department, bringing expertise in financial modeling, management control, and financing. Drawing from his prior experience in auditing and risk consulting at PwC, he contributes valuable insights to UpHill's sustainable business expansion. Outside of work, João is passionate about sports and is an avid member of the Padel and Golf federations.

David Rodrigues, MD

VP of Medical Content

Medical Doctor, Lecturer Assistant and Ph.D. student at NOVA Medical School. MSc in Clinical Research by Nova Medical School and Regulation Affairs for Drugs, Biologics and Medical Devices by Northeastern University. Post-graduate in Clinical Scholars Research Program - Harvard Medical School; David’s current research activities related to rational decision making and multimorbidity. He coordinates a critical appraisal one week course at NMS and has been a science communicator in the past ten years. Family and music lover, believes that proud and joy leads to innovation.

Miguel Duque

Head of Engineering

Computer Science Engineer at NOVA School of Science and Technology. Motivated to make an impact that matters, Miguel joined Uphill after an international career as a developer in a Belgium unicorn startup and as a consultant in Portugal and Angola. Started as a backend engineer, where he gained experience in service-oriented architecture and data-intensive applications.

Sebastião Barros

Head of Product

Biomedical Engineer, with a master’s in clinical engineering, with a dissertation on the formulation of a model to assess the compliance between clinical practice and a care pathway. Driven by impact, product value and business success, always eager to learn more about technology and innovation. Strives to improve processes to accomplish better results. Passionate about delivering value to people’s life using products, thrilled to be disruptive in the healthcare world. Sports addicted, federated in Padel since 2016.
